WordPress Ping List and Ping Server Checker

WordPress has the built in ability to send a "ping" to ping server sites alerting them that a new post has been added or updated.  Many Blog search engine use ping servers for their up to date information. Other users of ping servers are content aggregators which will post new content based on what is new and updated.

You don't want to ping servers too many times every time you update a post so a good plugin tyo make sure this doesn't happen is the MaxBlogPress PingOptimizer.  You'll also want to make sure you haven't duplicated ping servers and there's a plug-in just for that as well – the Spunky Jones Ping List Checker. armed with a decent ping list and these plug-ins you're well on your way to helping propel your site into the world wide web.

In order to add ping servers to your blog go to Settings –> Writing.  In Writing settings you'll see the area to paste your list into towards the bottom of the page.  Happy pinging :)
